The Curlycast Curl System

Learning to love and look after your textured hair is a steep learning curve and the fact that so many curve balls constantly get thrown in the way doesn’t make it any easier. You heal from heat damage and pregnancy comes along. You come out of postpartum hair for perimenopause to say hello and take your curl pattern.

A few months ago I was in the thick of still trying to recover my postpartum curls, whilst dealing with an androgenetic alopecia diagnosis and truthfully, all I wanted to do was pull out the hair straighteners and turn my back on 8 years of finally loving my curls. And then I remembered, in 2018 I healed my curls from awful heat and bleach damage by using a framework that I’ve since used in hundreds of consultations with other women. I knew how to heal struggling curls. I knew what they needed. So why wasn’t I doing it?

At 1am that morning, I developed The Curlycast Curl System, which is based on 8 years of learning everything I can about curly hair and haircare in general (thanks ADHD hyper focus!). It’s been eight weeks and already my curls are unrecognisable. Are they back to where they were before pregnancy? Not yet but they’re on their way.

So what is The Curlycast Curl System?

It’s split into two parts, some general guide lines, for instance, washing our hair two to three times a week and then a routine for washday. One thing that isn’t included in the Curl System is what products to use, and this is for two reasons. Firstly, what works for one person won’t necessarily work for another. A gel my hair might adore, yours may hate. The second reason being that The Curlycast Curl System whilst focused on getting your best curls, isn’t designed to get those best curls from products but rather from making your hair so healthy that it has no choice but to deliver great curls whether you use a drug store styler or a high end one. (Of course I am always more than happy to share what products work for me so do feel free to ask and I will share!)

You can see that is a very simple plan but one you can build on. For example if you wish to use a bonding treatment twice a week, go for it! If you have slightly coarser hair and it only needs a protein treatment once a month then you can adjust the plan as needed but this gives you a starting block to jump from. Maybe you use topical minoxidil daily or you derma stamp twice a week. These can be added in based on you, your curls, your routine and lifestyle.

I’ve already had messages from other women who have been following along and using this system themselves and they’re seeing results too, which makes me so happy! Isn’t healthy hair the aim of the game? I’ve always said that you could have the longest hair, the curliest hair and the shiniest hair, but if your hair and scalp are not healthy, none of that other stuff matters.

So if you’re currently struggling with your curls, my advice is to focus on a healthy routine. A routine that focuses on your scalp. Leaning into these will give you results, I guarantee it! Let me know if you’re following along with The Curlycast Curl System as I’d love to cheer you on!

  1. I am following the system and more or less looking for volume too. However I am 65 and age isnt on my side but I am finding it maintains my health and shedding. I use Pumpkins seeds grounded in my smoothie rather than tablets. The rice water didnt agree with me so i use a conditioner with protein. The system is working though so thankyou

I love that you are adapting it to suit your own curls and needs! A smoothie a day is keeping the shedding away! Haha!
